Conformal Load Bearing Antenna by Direct Write™ on Boeing part

February 9th, 2011

MesoScribe Technologies, working with Boeing and Air Force Research Laboratory’s Manufacturing Technology Division, 737 wing body fairingintegrated a Direct Write™ VHF antenna into a Boeing 737 forward wing-to-body fairing.  MesoScribe fabricated the antenna pattern and strip line feed using Direct Write™. The antenna follows the curved surface of the fairing, delivering one of the first Direct Write™ conformal load-bearing antenna structures (CLAS).

CLAS technologies are low-profile alternatives to conventional antenna structures that reduce weight, size, and observability. For these reasons, they are increasingly attractive for aerospace, automotive, and weapons systems.  MesoScribe’s Direct Write™ technology is a cost-effective platform for fabricating conformal antennas. With Direct Write™, many of the installation issues conventionally associated with adapting patterns to contoured surfaces are eliminated.  MesoScribe is working with a number of strategic partners to develop CLAS technologies for communications and signals intelligence (SIGINT) on UAVs and other air vehicles.
